Vision and Values

Isla Vista SOD Mission Statement:

Our passion is to equip saints to fulfill the Great Commission in Isla Vista and into the nations.

Our Core Values:

Love God, and be loved by God.

We know love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19). Our obedience to God needs to flow out of our love for God. Growing in our understanding of who God is and who we are in God is central to everything we do. Being always precedes doing according to the Word of God (Matt.12:34; Luke 6:45).

Discipleship in community.

Discipleship devoid of relationship is non-discipleship. Just as Jesus lived it and Paul modeled it, discipleship was not just about imparting the Gospel in word, but actually investing one’s own life into another (1 Thes. 2:8). Living lives of mutual support, transparency, humility, and open communication is the essence of kingdom discipleship (1 John 1:7).

Evangelism as a lifestyle.

Evangelism is not something we do; it is who we are (2 Tim. 2:4:5). We learn to live a life of loving, blessing, and encouraging everyone unconditionally each day, whether they know Christ or not. When we live for Him alone, people can’t help but wonder, and eventually ask, what is different about us (Mat. 5:16; 1 Peter 3:15).  It is our privilege, as those forgiven and loved by God, to live a lifestyle of sharing the good news both in word and deed (Luke 10:1-24; 1 John 3:18).
